My name’s Tony Ho Tran.
I’m a tech and science writer based out of Chicago with nearly a decade of narrative journalism experience.
My day gig: I’m the deputy editor for Innovation & Tech at The Daily Beast.
My other gig: I’m a freelance writer with a focus on tech, science, hidden histories, narrative reporting, and Dungeons & Dragons.
My other other gig: I’m a genetic genealogist. In October 2016 in an effort to connect with my mom’s father, an American soldier who served in Vietnam in the 1960s.
My family lost touch with him shortly before the war ended. We didn’t know his name, where he came from, or even his race.
I did what any millennial writer would do: I started a blog.
In doing so, I want to be able to share my findings as well as everything I learn in regards to fascinating subject of genealogy and ancestry…and I did that, and actually found him in January 2018 — almost two years to the day after I first told my mom about her genetic results.
So that’s me! Snoop around. If you want to chat, shoot me a message. Can’t wait to hear from you.
